Volunteering with Wonderfully Made is a reminder that every person has unique gifts and incredible value. It’s amazing to witness the growth these young adults have made—their increasing confidence, independence, and the beautiful social connections they’ve formed with one another is inspiring. I may come to give my time, but I always leave with a full heart.

I volunteer at Wonderfully Made because after retiring from a 35-year career in science and agricultural education, I knew I still had a lot to share. A prayer for the right opportunity was answered when I was able to join the WM volunteer team. Getting to know the Wonder Makers and experiencing hands-on science with them has been so rewarding. We grow it, we build it, we test it – and often, we just laugh at it.

I volunteer at Wonderfully Made because I have a connection to and love for this community of people. As a bonus mother to a son with intellectual and developmental disabilities, I have been involved with adults with IDD for many years. Being involved in Wonderfully Made gives me the opportunity to honor him and be filled with the joy this community brings.

One of my favorite parts of serving is building relationships with all of the Wondermakers and watching them all blossom so much over the past year. We do so many fun and interesting activities like baking, art, dancing, sharing, games, and more. And the delicious cookies are a huge bonus!

Every time I show up, I receive a warm greeting from the Wondermakers and instantly have a smile on my face

I volunteer at Wonderfully Made because I enjoy sharing time with outstanding young people who many times are not included in some of life’s opportunities, but who deserve to participate in activities that allow the light God has created within them to shine through.

One of my favorite parts of serving is helping Coach Griner with the “Griner Games”, the part of the day when the Wonder Makers get to engage in a variety of sports activities. The other is assisting with piano accompaniment to the songs they are learning to sing as they prepare to participate in an upcoming contemporary service in August.

Every time I show up, I receive the blessing of the joy in getting to know each Wonder Maker better with each visit, working alongside them in the kitchen, and just spending time with them.

It’s a gift to be part of a community where everyone is valued for who they are, wonderfully made by their Creator.
